In September of 2010 I was called by a producer of ABC's hit show Shark Tank. They had seen articles and press on CitiKitty and wanted me on the show.
I was familiar with Shark Tank. I had avidly watched Season 1 and learned a lot from the entrepreneurs on the show and the sharks. It didn't take much convincing for me to the know that going on the show would be great for me and CitiKitty.
I filmed Shark Tank two short months after that initial phone call and my episode aired in the Season Finale of Season 2.
How did it go?
Simply put...CitiKitty blew up. The night CitiKitty aired on Shark Tank my product became the #1 Seller on Amazon.com in the Home & Garden Department. A slot usually held by Fortune 500 Manufacturers.
Could you classify me as an overnight success? Sure but it would be a stretch...I began working on building my own successful business when I was a teenager. Always
entrepreneurial in nature I had been testing the waters for
years before starting CitiKitty in 2005.
Success on Shark Tank was years in the making. Years of branding, press pitching, message tweaking and just plain hard work. I was able to capitalize on the power of Shark Tank because I was ready for it.
Since airing on Shark Tank in 2011 I was fortunate to be asked back on by producers for a follow-up segment that aired in 2011.
In 2013 I made a two-peat performance on Shark Tank and become the first entrepreneur to ever be asked back on the show to pitch another product, HoodiePillow.
All this success has given me the opportunity to focus my future efforts on what I am really passionate about, bringing new products successfully and profitably to market.
